Beauty and the Beast Jr.

Ella was in her school musical of Beauty and the Beast Jr. She was a villager and a fork (in the "Be Our Guest" number). Ella did fantastic. Not all the kids were able to be mic'd but she was able to for a couple scenes for singing parts. She has a lovely voice. The play ran for two nights at the school. She keeps hoping that at the new school next year they'll do musicals too. I love that she loves music and acting!

Ella made new friends while working on the musical and they were able to have a cast party after. She had such a wonderful time.

Now here's Ella to give her version of how things went!

OK so I was told to write about my play... I can't think of anything... Oh wait.
Ummm so my favorite scene to work on was the "Be Our Guest" song because I just liked the dance to it. Just to tell you people if you ever want to be in a play at school you are going to have to give up a lot of lunch hours to work on it. It was so awesome to see the play come together and really funny to see people mess up their lines. One of my favorites is when Kyren (Maurice) said "What about Gaston? He's a fansome hella" and ya. Emma (Belle) and me searched for the second magic mirror because we needed two, one for each side of the stage. So here is the funny part. Emma couldn't find it so she had to use a watering can, so every time the cast meets up we ALWAYS bring up the watering can.

The cast party was really fun. It was at Maddie's (Silly girl #1) house. We played on the trampoline then we played with a balloon and we tried to keep it up. Fuad (Lumiere) made the balloon go over the fence so we made him get it. After I stopped playing me and Bianke (Madame de la Grande Bouche) sat down on the ground cause our seats were taken and we heard a pop, the balloon fell into the wood chips. Me and Bianke and Emma shared the ground on a little mat with one little blanket and roasted marshmallows. Soliel (Babette) one of my new friends wasn't there.

I heard that that night some girls slept over and there was a fire in Royal Oak that night and it almost burnt one of the girls houses down. Otherwise everything was great
People I made best friends with:
Emma - Belle
Soleil - Babette
Bianke - Madame de la grande Bouche
Maddie - Silly girl#1

Grade 3's Celebration of Learning

Every year the kids in the elementary school have what they call Celebration of Learning and each grade has a day where they showcase some of the things they've been working on. The grade 3's showcase was focusing on childhood in Ukraine, Peru, India, Tunisia. I asked Liv to describe what she did so here it is...

"We had a passport and before school we had to write our surname, given names, our nationality, date of birth, gender and place of birth and our signature. And when we were at the celebration of learning we had stamps and we looked around and looked what was there. And we looked at my stuff and it was pretty cool. Every time we looked around we put a stamp on the blank pages to show we had gone to the country to see the stuff. (I love that she forgot where she was born so she put Edmonton)

We made an art project. We took a piece of special wood and we put a white coat of glueish paint on the wood so the paint wouldn't sink into the wood. We put a picture of our self on the wood. Then we thought of emotions to match which country we did. Mine was Peru. I chose the word Enchanted and I had to think what colors to use to represent that word. I chose purple and pink because Peru is an adventurous place to go. We put designs of paper on it and we learned how to curl a straight piece of paper into a spiral. And I missed a few days but I caught up quickly and I got to stay a little longer than everyone to finish my project. I was going to put a shine coat on it but I already had all the stuff on it so I didn't because it would be too hard.

We built the Parkovy Bridge (the Love Lock Bridge) in Ukraine. We had to make a plan for what materials we needed to get. We drawed it out on a piece of paper and then we took a bunch of materials to work with. And we got a box to work for the base and then we cut it skinny so that it would make the bridge go across the base. Then we cut it and glued long toilet paper rolls to stand it up. We cut a little hole in it to the cardboard could slide in. we saw that it was wobbly so we put poles and wrapped duct tape around it so that it wouldn't break or bend. It was pretty strong at the end because we put 8 toilet paper rolls and covered them and painted them. We paper mache'd it so that it would be even stronger. After we painted it grey and for the sides we cut small toilet paper rolls in half to make a railing. We painted that red and purple-ish to make it look like the real thing. We let all the grade 3's to write their first and last initial to put it on the bridge.

This is about what steps we went through for building the project. We had to answer questions about what we thought and how we would do it. Then our teacher would check it off and she would write a comment if she thought it was a good idea or it needing to be fixed.

This drawing is about if we were in someone else's shoes in Ukraine. You draw what it would be like if you were a kid, and some of the structures and statues. And we drew a shoe because if you were in someone else's shoes what it would be like.

The story that I wrote was if I was a child in Ukraine what would my name be? I chose Maria and my family lived on a farm. I chose to live on a farm because most people Ukraine live on farms. My person when we grew up she wanted to run her family's farm. I went to school and my favorite subject is math and writing. After school some days my mom teaches me how to cook and make meals for the day. Some days after school I go to rhythmic gymnastics. My favorite meal of the day was sausages and potato pancakes.

I learned that the different structures had all different reasons they were there and some aren't there because they were broken down or not strong enough. It was pretty fun to do this because I got to show my mom everything that I've learned and stuff that I've been looking forward to showing her. I know my teachers have put a lot into doing all this so I'm pretty excited to show it."

Go Flames Go!

MARCH 14th, 2011 - blogged by Austin (age 9)...

I woke up this morning not knowing what i was doing . I woke up built LEGO, ate breakfast and did what i would do on a regular bases when all of a sudden mom calls me upstairs. I went upstairs and mom had the video camera in her hands, i thought whats she video taping me for?  I asked her 'why are you video taping me?' she answered saying you're going to go.....  watch the Calgary Flames practice, eat lunch with them ' and get autographs!  I was in shock! I started saying 'what?' I was soooooooooooooo excited!!she told me to go get dressed and ready to go. Devin drove me and Grayson to the Saddledome but missed the practice. We went to the desk where we got something and walked to the lunch area. We met my uncle Sean there and before lunch Grayson and I went to Craig Conroy to get our jersyes signed, then they showed a slide of Jarome Iginla, Miikka Kiprusoff, Rene Bourque and i think someone else. Ken King president of the Calgary Flames had a speech, in the speech he mentioned how me and Grayson were very big  i mean HUNOURMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( mix between humungeous + enourmous) Flames fans and that one day Grayson and i will be star players for the Flames, me a Right Wing and Grayson a Center on the first line. During the presentation you were asked to fill out a question for one of the flames Grayson and I chose Iginla, our question was what are some good tips for kids who love to play hockey and (Sean added this part in) when are you free ? we want to play shinny. At the end of the presentation we went up to each player , talked and got our jerseys and cards signed. When we looked at Regher he looked like a pretty big guy! We got pictures taken with Craig Conroy and some people i can't remember. It felt awesome seeing these guys! We both got Jarome Iginla's signature, Lance Bouma's, Mikael Backlund's, Mark Giordano's and Cory Sarich's signatures on our jerseys. I got Iggy's,Tanguay's, Mikael Backlund's, and Robyn Regher's signature on my cards. Then we left . We were amazed at how many people signed our jerseys.  IT WAS THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS ALSO AWESOME AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Austin

Back to me now... How cool is it that these boys were able to do this. Yes, I let him skip school to do it. Wouldn't you? Anyhow, I'm waiting on photos from Devaughn to add here, and I'll have to take a picture of Austin's signed jersey too. Thanks Sean for pretty much making Austin's dreams come true.
